  • Because I’m sure we can agree that the melting makeup look isn’t hot

We are in the midst of a heat wave – a level 4 heat wave to be exact. Fortunately, the temperature will drop tomorrow, but only into the twenties and thirties – it will still be sweltering. This means that the threat will seriously slip from the face. Makeup expert at FalseEyelashes.co.uk, Saffron Hughestalk about how to make your makeup last in the heat.

    1. Make sure your moisturizer and SPF are oil-free

As always with makeup, preparation really starts with your skincare routine. “On a hot day, use an oil-free moisturizer because it’s less likely to leave your face feeling greasy throughout the day,” advises Hughes. “Of course, you should also apply 30 or more sunscreens to your face under your makeup to make sure it’s properly protected from the sun.”

    2. Apply the best primer to prevent makeup from sliding off

We know many of you don’t use a primer because it’s another step to add to your regimen, but it’s so important in warmer temperatures. “They create a sticky base that your foundation and other face foundation products can adhere to,” says Hughes. “Plus, they can fill pores, hydrate your skin, and give you a radiant complexion, all of which means you’ll need less foundation.”

    3. Avoid shiny base products and apply light layers at a time

Chances are you’re already looking a little shinier than usual in this heat. Using any products with a shiny finish is very unhelpful as it will make you look more sweaty. “Choose a matte foundation because it’s made without mineral oil or petrolatum,” advises Hughes. “It will make your face less susceptible to wrinkles throughout the day.” If the foundation seems too heavy, you can opt for a matte CC cream.

Be careful if you use too much base product. Not only will this keep your makeup from looking cakey, heavy layers of foundation will also prevent your skin from breathing and can make you feel hotter.

    4. Skip powder-based products

“Powder can look cakey on a hot day,” warns Hughes. Who recommends avoiding them all together in this heat and using a cream or liquid mixture instead. This includes foundation, blush, bronzer, and even eyeshadow.

“During the hotter months, people’s skin has less moisture because it’s more dehydrated, so it’s also important to choose products that contain moisturizing ingredients.” For example, look for products that contain jojoba oil, coconut oil, and hyaluronic acid as ingredients.

    5. Always finish your foundation with a skin-soothing face mist

In this weather, it’s always a good idea to use one of the best face mists for makeup. Skin tends to be more dehydrated when it’s hotter, so a mist will keep your makeup from sliding and sliding all over the place, as well as giving your skin a much-needed boost of hydration.

    6. Stick to moisturizing lip formulas so you don’t have to top up as much

“If you’re used to matte lipsticks but want something more hydrating for the summer, a satin finish is a great choice because the formula is somewhere between matte and cream,” says Hughes. “However, it’s not as shiny as a cream finish, so the change in formula won’t be too shocking once you apply it.” Plus, it’s a great summer formula for several reasons. First, the subtle shimmer makes imperfections less noticeable, so you won’t need to top it up as much. They are also less likely to slip as much as with a cream or clear formula.

Hughes also recommends lip oils because they’re packed with nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil and shea butter, so they’re actually more moisturizing than your everyday lip balm.

    7. Make sure your mascara is waterproof

The best waterproof mascara is a must have in the summer Even if you don’t plan on swimming in the pool or at the beach, waterproof formulas last longer and won’t transfer to your cheeks until lunchtime. “Moisture can cause mascara to smudge all over, but waterproof formulas are less likely to do that,” explains Hughes.

    8. Stop touching your face throughout the day

“Not only can you spread bacteria from your hands to your face by touching your face too much, but with each touch you remove makeup from your face,” warns Hughes. “That’s because your warm hands (from the sun) break down the products, leaving your face blotchy throughout the day.”
